Editrix

Finally! A document editor designed with the needs of authors in mind!

Editrix is a tool based on the celebrated limit-your-distractions method of writing.  Many apps provide you with a distraction-free creation platform, but what happens after you've completed your first draft?  Every author finds themselves in need of document editing, and many are working under deadlines that limit their options.  The traditional advice is to gain distance from a manuscript by putting it away for a week or a month before beginning the edit.  In the fast-paced modern world, that month of downtime looks more and more like a relic of the Victorian age.  Editrix is a powerful new technique for eliminating the time-lag.

The problem: when you finish a manuscript, it's very difficult to focus on your work like a first-time reader.

The solution: force your brain to analyze every single word.

Editrix gives you an interface designed to channel your mind in ways that make this superhuman feat of concentration easy.

Features:

  • Play/pause and speed controls let you decide how fast you work.  Editrix remembers where you stopped work last and puts you to work again right where you left off.
  • Automatically detects whether or not your work is divided into chapters. (you are using industry-standard manuscript formatting...right?)
  • Document statistics provide you with all the information you need with a swipe of your finger: total document word count, total number of chapters, what page and chapter you're currently editing, and a word count for the chapter.
  • Multiple-document support
  • Designed specifically for large documents.  It will take longer to load the first time you open a large document, but afterwards you won't find a single document editor with faster access.  No more pdf-style loads where the first page is available instantly but you have to wait a minute to access page 755!
  • Edit Screen is designed to give you the context of the section that you're editing and nothing more.  Reading while you're supposed to be editing is strictly forbidden!  Back to work!
  • Word search lets you know how many times you've used a word in a document.  It's great for catching overused words...and it's lightning fast.  Use the Next button to flip through your manuscript to find and fix problems associated with your word-searched word.  Don't worry about losing your place. The Proof Screen will return you to the exact moment you stopped your proofreading.
  • Use the save button!  It's common advice that authors should be in the habit of saving their work early and often.  Making you commit to your edits helps us maintain a speedy user interface, and gives you good habits.
  • Backup your work with an email.  Editrix automatically detects the format of your document and saves as either a plaintext or rich text document email attachment.

Whether it's words that are correctly spelled, but not the one you want, repetitive sentences that make your eyes glaze over, or a hundred other irritating mistakes, you'll find that Editrix provides you with a lens to see your work as if you were seeing it for the first time.  It's like instant superhero laser vision.  Go on and try it, it'll change the way you write.

Drop us a line and tell us what you think.

Best Regards,

  1. The app sounds awesome, but I read the review and now I'm debating whether I should purchase it. I'm an old geezer who has forgotten most of what I learned in school. I write a lot of emails and I'm certain I make mistakes but, again, the bad review is holding me back. All I'm wanting from the app is to correct my many grammar mistakes. Please let me know if you have an app for an occasional writer. Thank you.

  2. I received and applied all instructions to fix my app. Since then, my app is only allowing me to import with Editrex. I download and send my document to the app which closes immediately, then I open the app and it closes immediately. This is not supposed to happen because the documents are supposed to "Open in Editrex." When I touch the big circle. I can see the documents in the app, however, the message still tells me that I have no documents. I have followed all necessary steps: documents .txt and .rtf . I need it to “Open in” and not transfer my documents.
